Intergenerational Extended Learning Pathway
The Level 3 Diploma in Intergenerational Care and Education (NCFE accredited) 550 GLH
This Diploma forms a comprehensive qualification in Intergenerational Practice and comprises of 7 units. Learners choose to complete Unit 3 or 4 rather than both.
This Diploma will give the learner a full understanding of Intergenerational work and the opportunity to set up their own IG practice in their own centre. Learners who opt for the Diploma course must be working in early years, educational or care settings and have a good level of written English (At least Grade C GCSE equivalent)
Unit 1 - Understanding the principles and processes of intergenerational work.
Provides the basic understanding of the definitions, processes and general concepts of Intergenerational work necessary to successfully bring different generations together.
Successful completion of the assignments in Unit 1 qualifies you for The Award in Intergenerational Care and Education. You will also receive certification for 15 hours of study certified by CPD Certification Service
Unit 2 - Participate in the Principles and Processes of Intergenerational Work
This unit is concerned with planning Intergenerational projects as well as observing and evaluating Intergenerational projects. This provides an opportunity to observe and reflect upon Intergenerational work in practice against the definitions, processes and concepts taught in Unit 1. Learners will be invited to spend a full day at Nightingale House, London where you will observe and evaluate a range of IG experiences and plan your own IG project.
Successful completion of the assignments in Unit 1 and Unit 2 qualifies you for The Certificate in Intergenerational Care and Education
Unit 3 - Understanding dementia and other age-related conditions
This unit provides a basic understanding of dementia and other age related conditions. This unit should be studied by childcare practitioners.
Unit 4 - Understanding child development and the government statutory guidance for schools
Provides a basic understanding of child development. It will explore the statutory framework for the EYFS and the Development Matters Guidance in order to facilitate safe and appropriate Intergenerational (IG) engagement.
Unit 5 - Understanding and assessing the risks of Intergenerational work including health and safety, infection control and safeguarding
This unit is concerned with the understanding and assessment of the risks of Intergenerational work and ways to overcome these risks.
Unit 6 - Effective Intergenerational Practice: Observation, Assessment, Planning and Evaluation
This unit facilitates a holistic approach that ensures that the child and older person are always central to the programme.
Unit 7 - Volunteers and Teamwork: Developing an understanding in cooperative strategies when working together in intergenerational settings.
This unit considers working with other practitioners and volunteers within Intergenerational work.
Unit 8 - Developing, delivering and evaluating a differentiated, purposeful, relationship-based Intergenerational programme appropriate for various needs and abilities with a team of practitioners and volunteers.
This unit is the culmination of the full course of Intergenerational training and will give learners the opportunity to implement the skills and knowledge they have gained through this course of study. Students will feel empowered to take a lead in developing and delivering high-quality Intergenerational programmes.

You will enjoy a fully immersive week as part of a small group, at Apples Honey Nightingale Nursery and Nightingale House Care Home.
Residential or non-residential options to participate in 4 full days of IG experiences and lectures including evening activities. For the residential option you will be offered full board within the Care Home
During the evenings there will be opportunities for all participants to enjoy activities together
At the end of the week you will have experienced all elements of the teaching needed to gain the NCFE accredited Certificate in Intergenerational Care and Education.
